Clips Store + Content + Tutorial + Support (Approx 2.5 Month Rev)

I have had a number of people who hit me up asking about the established clips stores, but could not afford the price of them so they were looking for something cheaper, or something that I would allow them to do payments on. So here is that offer.

Options:
1. I will license you around 300 scenes of my content (or 100 of another, 3 mo. updates).
2. I will teach you how to cut, watermark, and compress clips using VideoCharge.
3. I will be available for support/coaching/mentoring up to 2 months.
4. I will give you a crash course on how to do updates, scheduling, and promoting clip store.

If you do it how I tell you, and consistently. You should easily make $200-300.00 a month minimum with around 30-60 minutes of work daily (figuring you are slower, it takes me 15), if you call it that. I will help you learn editing and compression software, picking out a domain, watermarking and other things needed to be successful.

You should break even within 2-3 months. Cost for this, $750.00 paid in one lump sum. $1000.00 if you are doing three months and payments (this includes the cost of HD/S&H). Payment plan will require a contract, and you will not get the license, 2257 docs, or receipt until paid in full.

Payment to be made by Verified PayPal, WIRE, or EPASS.

* Clip Store Management
* Full Model(s) & Scene Descriptions
* VideoCharge Guide (Processing/Cutting/Watermarking)

How Do I Get Started in Adult?!

Posted By: Chris Marcus on June 4, 2010 in Clip Stores, Tutorials - Comments: No Comments »

I get asked this question all the time. I will tell you my honest opinion although many others may disagree depending on their background. Some people are nothing but traffic guys, and work the affilate and traffic broker game. Others are looking to do their own pay sites, and maybe produce their own content one day. While others do not care about any of that shit and simply want to make money from their home and in their underwear.

In my opinion the easiest way to start in the adult industry is with a clip store. It is low risk, and as long as you follow the routine daily, you should easily get your R.O.I. in a few months and  from there you expand. However, before you go head strong into the adult industry you need to keep in mind that your success and failure resides completely on YOU. I can give you all the best advice on the planet, 13 years of experience, what I would recommend you do based on your knowledge, cash, and skill sets. But if you do not listen. There is nothing to keep you from ending up in the shitter. Adult online is the same as any other business. You have to put in the WORK. Obviously, there are some perks. Freedom, and working in your panties from home.  That said, let’s get rolling.

This is going to be a basic business outline you would follow assuming your end goal is to develop your own pay sites, and possibly your own content. Before you get to that point, REGARDLESS of how much money you have, you should follow these steps. They obviously are not going to make you millions over night. But you WILL learn the skills you need to make money online.

1. Go to your local county clerk’s office and register a business D.B.A. (doing business as).

2. Go to your local bank and open up a BUSINESS checking account, and get your credit/debit card that goes with it.

3. Research the niche you want to start out in. There is a lot of good content out there you can get for a few thousand dollars that would last you for YEARS of updates. I  would recommend you get into something you like personally. You are going to have to look at this stuff daily. So it would make you life more enjoyable if it is something you are passionate about. But you can always go more mainstream hardcore if you like. You may just need to work harder.

4. After you have picked a niche(s), then you need a domain. This will be important for a pay site later, branding, and watermarking your clips. I have written a tutorial on how to find good domain names in that section.

5. I would get a virtual hosting account. This is going to be for your banners, your gallery submits, posting up pictures to forums and other things. Virtual hosting is about as low as you can go, and be dependable. If you use a free host or something similar, they can nuke you and your content at any time. There is nothing more annoying that working for a month, and then have your content killed because you broke some Terms of Service or became high bandwidth. Hosting, in time, will be the life line of your business. You need to invest in a decent one for everything from hosting your site, promotion materials, branded email and DNS/domain management.

6.  Next, you need to sign up for your clip stores. There are a number of them out there now a days, but really the only two I have found that make you decent money are Clips4Sale and Clips.com. The terms vary, and I prefer C4S myself, but typically you are looking at a 60/40 or 50/50 type of split.  For their end, they are taking care of the billing, hosting, and other b.s. that they take on their end. While not the best deal around, it is a decent deal.

7. Once you get your content, you are going to want to watermark you clips. There is a tutorial to do it with one of the mid range programs I use, and recommend. There are higher and lower end on the market. I also use Premiere and Sorenson Squeeze, depending on if the clip is a re-run, or a 1st release, etc.. But I digress…

So you watermark you FULL LENGTH clips. Once you have done that, you would then want to cut your clips into sections. Some do this, some do not, it’s up to you. I am giving you a very basic overview of what has worked for me. So you do say maybe two  week’s worth to start. Watermarking and compressing your FULL LENGTH, and the cutting into sections. I like to do three pieces. So if a clip is 10 minutes long, I do 3 minutes per. You can’t be less that 2 minutes on a Clip Store.

Continued later…

Clip Store Random Thoughts

Posted By: Chris Marcus on May 6, 2010 in Clip Stores - Comments: No Comments »

One thing that has come up a lot in PM and IM discussions is commitment to one site. Your first pay site may not be your forever money making site.

I had foot fetish pay sites before I made my own content. I licensed content and used that money for other projects over time while I learned more of the adult content and pay market. Once I did, I either closed or sold off the sites and used that money for other things.

Same as now. Occasionally I dabble in mainstream, or some adult project and will build it up and sell it off. You can easily take a site with transferable content and build it up over a couple of years, and then sell it off and move on to shooting your own, or something else you had your eyes on.

Even on the celebrity site I sold off last year. I had many versions of it up to the point of starting it. I still have dslcelebs sitting there. It still makes money and I have not updated it in years. I started celebrityfeetonline, and build up membership, traffic, for 2 years and then sold it off for a nice chunk of change to put on new house.

A lot of people I talk to on this, and other sites, content, etc. seem to look at some of these projects as their forever site. Which is nice. It would be great if you came out of the gate on your first site and made a killing, and could retire with your toes in the sand.

However, realistically. A lot of sites are going to be learning lessons on success and failure. If you have some content, or something of value, then when you go to sell it. It should be worth more than you put into it. Which is why it is important to pick sites carefully.

You can start out shooting content, and maybe it is not good. My first efforts were not. But over time we got better, and so did the girls. It took me about 9 months before it exploded.

That said, if you are going to shoot content. Any kind of content. Make sure you put in the forethought in paperwork, and how you shoot it to think of the resale down the line. Whether you give up adult, or do like TV where you get to 100 episodes (scenes) and then go into syndication (licensing).

Content is gold.

If you opt for the clips4sale route, you can hold off on a pay site and launch later.

Clips4Sale (the main one I use although there are others) offers not only clip sales buy pictures, dvd, and some other things. In their back end, it would appear that their admin is moving the way of a pay site, or cam, and some other features.

I do not really care for the new admin panel, and still use the old one. I only sell clips on any of the clip stores, but for a small first timer who does not want to get over his head. That is an option for your total solution in the beginning.

I still recommend, even if you ONLY do a clip store, that you get a domain, and watermark your images. Just point the domain to the clip store. When you launch a site later, you can always redirect it to your pay site.

Clips4Sale (clips stores) and Starting Out in the Biz

Posted By: Chris Marcus on April 21, 2010 in Clip Stores, Tutorials - Comments: No Comments »

Apparently from the email and IM’s there is some confusion on what a clips store is (http://www.gfy.com/showthread.php?t=887448). So I am going to give you a break down of what it is, and how it works. In my example, I am going to stick to mainly Clips4Sale.com. Mainly because that is the one I make the MOST money with. Although some have better success with FetishVideos, Clips.com, ClipClinic, YouYouGirls, and so on.

When I started my adult business full time. I launched all my sites via Clips4Sale. It allowed me to make some sales, test the waters, and get some good feedback while building up my content for a pay site.

Each site was a bit different on when I launched but it took me roughly around 3 months to get about 6 months of material to launch my pay site, put together some DVD’s. Some sites were launched in 3 months. Some longer. Some shorter. Just depends on how much I shoot, and how many updates I want per week.

So I started out with $3000.00. Bought $500.00 camcorder. Business partner had still camera, and half million dollar house, so we were off. We paid the girls too much at first, and did not know how to best streamline production. We do not shoot on a per scene basis like most of porn. We pay per SHOOT. So we get a number of scenes per SHOOT to maximize revenue, and margins.

Over 9 months we had tinkered with the type of girls, what we shot, how we shot, listened to the feedback, tried different update days and ways of updating until we found our groove. Around the 9 month mark things took off, and we started shooting our stocking project.

We followed the same exact formula as before. First working the C4S connection. We started a new store, and cross linked it. We promoted it on TGP submits. Over the next few months we would make our money back while getting enough content to launch a new pay site. One we did, BAM, sign ups.

Within a couple of months we moved on to tickling. It was something we had received a ton of e-mails on, and apparently few catered to it. We kind of stumbled into it by accident, and started doing… basically what the e-mails told us. Over a few months we build up enough content to launch a site, BAM took off. Even on DVD sales. Which I have to admit was surprising.

Clips4Sale has done some evolution over time. It was mainly a place for fetish and niche webmasters and content producers to sell their wares without building a website. You could just use their interface, and CMS. Their processor, and over time, Neil (the owner) built up some nice traffic. Doing the Howard Stern show, and some other things to make it into the mammoth it is today.

The site now offers a section for selling DVD’s, pictures from your galleries, webcam, and number of other features to help you make some sales via automation among other things. It probably takes some time for a newbie to learn these things, but over time you get the hang of the automation I suppose.

Now, all that said. A lot of store owners rely on the POP of updates for their traffic. They do not have a lot of content, but they are always trying to get that POP. The front page of C4S was changed a few months back and now that is not going to be as beneficial as it was before. I recommend you build your OWN traffic.

For me, I include C4S option on all my sites. I link to it heavily, and even on TGP submits. I have always done this. While Neil’s traffic, and the POP is nice. I do not count on it for my sales. So just a head’s up for those who do not like link building, traffic trading, and the rest.

Other clips stores vary. I am not going to go into my experience with all of them but I encourage you to try them out. It is just more money for your content. The percentage for payouts will differ as well as traffic, admin panels, and offerings. Some more. Some less.

The same can be said for their percentages of money they take from producers. C4S is a 60/40 split. Some are 50/50, some stacked even more to the clip store. Some offer an affiliate program to supposedly boost you up to 70%. Each has their niches, and grooves.

For a long time Clips4Sale was catering to only the mom and pops. Small and medium market fetish and niche providers. Over the past couple of years it has exploded into something like 20,000 or 30,000 stores!! My store number is 1353/2305/2917/2865/4057 and so on… As you can see I started YEARS ago to give you some idea.

At the conferences, I have talked to any number of programs and people. Some use C4S. Some do not think it is worth their time. Personally I find it an invaluable resource. But, as always in online business and adult, a lot of the success or failure comes down to YOU.

Clip Store Advantages & Disadvantages

Posted By: Chris Marcus on April 15, 2010 in Clip Stores - Comments: No Comments »

Now that you can see a pay site is not as easy as some would make it seem, nor as inexpensive to do it right. We move on to the next subject which is a clips store.

There are a number of them, and they each vary in their own ways.

clips4sale.com
fetishvideos.com
clips.com
youyougilrs.com
clipclinic.com

While you can post your content at all of them to maximize your dollars. I, personally, do mainly clip4sale. I have clips on most of the others, but I mainly keep my clips4sale store updated the most.

They offer a 60/40 payout. It’s paid once a month. Normally on the 7th. I receive mine by WIRE to my bank account.

While clips4sale offers pix4sale, and dvd4sale and all the rest. I am going to stick to just the clip store part of it to minimize confusion.

Clip Stores

Advantages:

1. No cost to start up.

2. No monthly bandwidth fees.

3. No VISA/MC fees. No approval process.

4. Typically a split payout. Some higher than others. Some offer affiliate programs. This, in theory, to boost your payout and traffic.

5. 2257 docs and proper licensing of material still apply.

6. Simple site design. You pick colors, add some simple HTML, tada you are open.

7. Some clips store sites buy, drive, and dump a lot of traffic to the site. So you get some nice traffic when you do your updates. Others, not so much. You are pretty much responsible for driving your own traffic and sales.

8. Most clip store patrons are repeat buyers and will pay more in a month for clips than a membership to your pay site.

As you can see, there are some nice advantages to having a clip store. Low start up cost, and already established with billing in place and minimal grief.

For me when I went into adult full time, I started this way. I tested the market making my own content, posting it up on clips4sale, and then people would buy.

I already had a url for a pay site to be launched later, and watermarked my clips accordingly. In 3-6 months when I had enough content, I launched the first pay site. Then I moved on to stockings. I did the same formula, and bam launched another site. Then with the tickling, same thing again, Bam new site. I tweaked some things along the way and figured out the best ways to maximize clip store sales.

I never relied on the front page ‘pop’ of clips4sale for my traffic. Even though I have a TON of content, and can update almost every day. That ‘pop’ was just gravy. I drove traffic through my TGP submits, cross linking, board or forum posts, etc..

If you have do not have content, and buy or license some. You get a decent amount you can make some nice money on Clips4Sale. For all of the shoots I do in a given month. I make my money back in 30-45 days. So everything beyond that is gravy for me.

While I can go on, I will move to some of the disadvantages of clip stores. Yep, nothing in adult or online is all roses. So there is always a dark side.

Disadvantages:

1. Typically you give up more revenue (40%+) on clip store versus 15% on pay site.

2. You are competing with other stores.

3. You still need to drive the majority of your traffic.

4. Very limited site design options.

5. Limited off site linking. Pay site, network, etc..

6. Some of the interfaces are cumbersome at best.

7. Some clip store sites have a ‘review’ or holding period for clips before post.

While there are some stinking points to a clip store. It is still a low risk, solid, place to start out. Better yet, when shopping for a niche that is not saturated like most mainstream porn now a days. You can check out the independent producers on the clip stores.

Regardless of all the tubes out there. Most are re-running the same old tired mainstream porn. Why not? There is plenty of it, and programs give it to you for next to nothing.

Niche is not like that at all. Less of it. Customers demands are higher and less likely to be satisfied by mainstream porn. Regardless of economy or other crap. They will still buy.

With the clip store sites. There are certain ways to market on the site (as well as driving your own traffic) and get the most out of your content working it six ways from Sunday. However, that I am not going to share publicly on a board..

I save that for those I work with.
